Everything you need for a safer beach day.
RipCo combines live beach data, AI analysis, and Australian beach intelligence into one trusted product. Here's what's inside.
AI Rip Detection
AI that watches the water for you.
Trained on hundreds of hours of curated Australian beach footage, RipCo's vision model identifies the visual signatures of rip currents, the calm channels between breaking waves, the seaward foam streaks, the pulse of return flow.
It runs continuously on every connected camera. When something rip-like appears, it's outlined on the live feed with a confidence score. When nothing suspicious is visible, it stays quiet. We never round a guess up to look smart.
- Live beach footage analysed continuously
- Rip current signatures highlighted on the water
- Confidence percentage shown for every detection
- Falls back to safe defaults when conditions are unclear
"I've watched this water for twenty years. The first time I saw RipCo flag a rip on my own beach in real time, I knew the technology had finally caught up with what we see from the tower." Mark D., Patrol Captain, Northern Beaches SLSC
See the beach before you leave.
A forecast tells you what might happen. A camera tells you what is actually happening right now. RipCo brings every live beach cam in our coverage area into one calm, fast-loading interface.
Streams are sourced through partnerships with Surfline, Coastalwatch and Swellnet. We optimise for low latency on cellular and pin-sharp playback when you arrive at the beach.
- HD streams from Surfline, Coastalwatch & Swellnet
- Adaptive bitrate, works on patchy cellular
- Fullscreen and picture-in-picture modes

One number, four signals.
The Safety Score is RipCo's at-a-glance answer to "is this beach OK right now?", a single 0–100 number you can read in the carpark before you unlock the boot.
Behind it, four signals are weighted and combined: AI rip confidence, current weather, patrol status and active hazard reports. When a signal is missing or low-confidence, we say so instead of fudging the math. The score is decision support, not a guarantee.
- AI rip confidence, weighted heaviest
- Wind, swell and surface conditions
- Live patrol status (red & yellow flags)
- Active hazard alerts within 5km
Real-time conditions, refreshed every 5 minutes.
RipCo pulls primary data from the Bureau of Meteorology, WillyWeather, and the Open-Meteo marine model, then merges them with hyperlocal beach observations where we have them.
We display the most recent reading and timestamp it honestly. When a sensor is offline, we don't extrapolate; we tell you the data is stale.
- Water temperature (BOM coastal stations)
- Air temperature & precipitation (BOM, WillyWeather)
- Wind speed and direction (10-minute average)
- Swell height, period and direction (Open-Meteo marine)
- Tide status and next high/low
Know where the flags are.
For every covered beach, RipCo shows the current patrol status: red and yellow flag locations, lifeguard tower positions, swim zone boundaries, and patrol times. Updated through partnerships with Surf Life Saving NSW and partner clubs.
- Live patrol status (active, off-duty, no patrol today)
- Patrol hours by season
- Swim zone boundary on the map
- Lifeguard club contact for emergencies
Patrol data sourced from Surf Life Saving NSW and partner clubs.
